Best Practice SEO

Having a beautiful website for you to see on the internet is not the same as having a website that your customers, clients, patrons, etc. can find.

  1. Picking Keywords and Phases

This is the single most important thing to do when it comes to optimizing your site for your customers and search engines. The words and phrases that your potential customers type into the major search engines are the specific keywords/phases that must be included into your website. For example, when searching for “blue coffee cups” I see images of blue coffee cups and most importantly I find companies that sell blue coffee cups in a myriad of shades of blue. I did not see websites for laptop computers. There are keyword search services that can help you to locate the primary keywords for your industry and the products or services you sell.

  1. Optimize every page on your site

Optimizing each Web page as a standalone page is important. Optimization is a page-by-page effort, that when done correctly benefits the entire website. The right page keyword/phases can make difference between competing for a highly competitive keyword phrase such as “steak restaurant in Chesapeake, VA ” on your home page, and competing for a much less competitive keyword phrase such as “steak restaurant” on another relevant landing page.

  1. Optimize your page titles

All of the major search engines have hundreds of different algorithms that compute where your Web page should be listed for different keyword searches. Putting your keywords within the title description tag of your pages I have found to be one of the most important SEO techniques. It will help your rankings climb and make it easier for your visitors to remember.

4. Optimize your page content

For some, It is very difficult to write content for your web pages. Making sure you have the right information for your visitors and having the correct keywords/phases is critical to the success of your websites SEO. Not only do you need to put the information you want the visitor to see in front of them in an easy-to-read style, you also must include keywords/phases. That sounds simple until you have to write the content and make those words fit into your sentences.

5. Create an inbound linking strategy

Submitting your site to Web site and article directories is a very beneficial way to drive targeted traffic to your site.

Links within these sites bring visitors to your Web site, and search engine “spiders” are easily able find your site and index your pages within their results. If your site doesn’t have a link pointing to it on the World Wide Web, the search engines will never find it and you will never see any traffic from Google or the other big ones.
